SHARESPACE at the Olympic Games 2024

We are excited to announce that SHARESPACE will be present at this year’s Olympic Games 2024 in Paris, France with a unique virtual reality (VR) demo presented by Inria at the “Club France” area, located in the vibrant Cité des Sciences de La Villette. This immersive experience promises to captivate both sports enthusiasts and the general public from July 27th to August 11th.

Inria’s booth, exclusively dedicated to the SHARESPACE project, is set to receive many sports enthusiasts over the coming month. With an expected daily footfall of 70,000 visitors, the demo offers a rare opportunity to experience the latest in VR sports technology. This initiative, backed by the French Ministry of Research, is strategically positioned to engage the massive fan base celebrating French athletes’ victories in “Club France.”

The presentation of SHARESPACE’s real-world sport scenario is the main goal of the booth. Participants will mount an ergobicycle equipped with IMU sensors, which meticulously capture their pedaling actions. Donning a HMU, users will find themselves immersed in a dynamic virtual environment, complete with hand and head tracking.

After a brief period to acclimate to the virtual surroundings, participants will face simulated virtual opponents who will intermittently launch attacks. The demo is designed to gamify the experience, with the primary goal of illustrating how amplification can enhance reaction times. This interactive element not only makes the demo engaging but also provides valuable data for scientific analysis.

Inria’s ethical committee has approved the collection of participant data, ensuring that all consented information contributes to the ongoing research. This initiative exemplifies the intersection of entertainment and scientific inquiry, highlighting how VR can be leveraged to improve athletic performance.

Visitors to the booth will experience firsthand the cutting-edge advancements in VR technology, as Inria showcases the potential of SHARESPACE in revolutionizing sports training and performance.

As the Olympic spirit thrives in Paris, this VR demo offers a glimpse into the future of sports and technology, providing a memorable experience for all who partake.
