SHARESPACE Consortium Meeting in Rennes, France

Coming fresh of the IEEE VR conference in Saint Malo, France, a very special SHARESPACE consortium meeting was hosted at Inria in Rennes on March 13th & 14th. The conference the week before attracted multiple Horizon Europe XR research projects, and thus Inria hosted the consortium meetings of two other projects next to SHARESPACE: GuestXR and META-TOO Project.

The first day of the meeting in Rennes therefore provided a special opportunity for the three projects to network and to present themselves to each other. Here a short description of GuestXR and META-TOO:

GuestXR is a project that develops an immersive virtual social space in XR where the focus is on the existence of a machine learning agent called “The Guest”, which can facilitate interaction between participant to help them achieve their intended goals. The goal of The Guest is to unlock interactions between participants and help users address conflicts in virtual environments. Like SHARESPACE, GuestXR utilizes an Ethics by Design approach.

META-TOO is a project about the transfer of knowledge and technology for investigating gender-based inappropriate social interactions in the Metaverse. META-TOO addresses these topics whilst also boosting the research and management capacity of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the coordinating institution from Greece. By leveraging expertise from top European institutions, such as the Institute National de Recherche en Informatique et Automatique (INRIA) in France and the Fundació de Recerca Clínic Barcelona-Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (FRCB-IDIBAPS) in Spain.

Next to networking, the first day of the SHARESPACE consortium meeting focused on demonstrations of the current technology and discussions about further development. The second day of the meeting was hosted at the prestigious institute for sport sciences at ENS Rennes. Here the consortium experiences multiple demonstrations of ongoing research projects.
