Video Sport Scenario

New video in our YouTube series SHARESPACE Explained! In this series we are explaining our core concepts, research, and technology. For this third video, we explain one of the three Real World Scenarios: Sport. In this video, senior researcher Frank Multon and PhD student Valentin Ramel talk about their research at Inria (French national research institute for digital science and technology).

Inria, with the help of the M2S Lab from University Rennes2 has a long experience in developing VR training systems for sports, and regularly hosts elite athletes to develop dedicated systems with real transfer of skills between VR training and real practice.

This video describes the use of virtual reality to improve cycling performance by studying human motion and analyzing key variables in sports science. The research focuses on enhancing cyclists’ ability to anticipate attacks during group rides (peloton), using VR simulations to train cyclists to detect subtle movement changes. Through motion capture experiments and VR training, cyclists can improve their timing and coordination in competitive scenarios. The project aims to support sports science departments, training centers, and even Olympic athletes by providing advanced training tools to refine skills and performance.
